Anthony Bass (RHP, MIA) was the favorite for saves heading into the season. As it turns out, having a fish-themed last name isn’t enough to guarantee the closer role with the Marlins. Bass saved seven games in 2020 with attractive surface stats (3.51 ERA, 1.01 WHIP), but luck on balls in play (23% H%) helped him overcome some rather soft skills (12% K-BB%, 87 BPV). It was a similar story in 2019 (3.56 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 21% H%, 14% K-BB%, 89 BPV). The 33-year-old’s one standout skill has been his ability to induce ground balls (52% GB% in 2019, 62% in ’20). Unfortunately, that skill has been in remission in 2021 (39% GB%), leaving him vulnerable to his general chalkiness (5.40 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 7% K-BB%, 38 BPV). His velocity...
