The first four spots in the starting rotation are set, assuming health, but the fifth starter spot will be up for grabs this spring as Robert Gsellman (RHP, NYM), Zack Wheeler (RHP, NYM) and Seth Lugo (RHP, NYM) battle it out.

Gsellman, 23, was a pleasant surprise in 2016. After posting a 3.99 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 6.9 Dom and 2.4 Ctl in 115 IP between Double-A and Triple-A, he was summoned to New York on August 23. In the eight outings that followed, he tallied a 2.42 ERA, 8.5 Dom and 3.0 Ctl in 45 IP. It remains to be seen if the strikeouts will continue at that pace, considering his track record (6.2 Dom in 203.1 lifetime IP combined at Double-A and Triple-A).
