Now is a good time to update the vacant closer job, as there have been a few interesting developments since we previewed the battle back on Jan. 11. As Opening Day nears, David Hernandez (RHP, PHI), Andrew Bailey (RHP, PHI) and Dalier Hinojosa (RHP, PHI) have emerged as the leading candidates to vying for the gig.

Hernandez entered spring as the favorite, but missed about two weeks of action due to triceps tendinitis. With just three innings under his belt as of March 27, the team will probably be hesitant to anoint him the closer at the start of the season. Allowing him to ease into things would appear to be the prudent move.

Injuries have limited Bailey to just 53 IP in the majors from 2012-15, but he is squarely...
