Despite the departure of some marquee names this past offseason, the Diamondbacks have exceeded the expectations of many so far this year, sitting a game over .500 at the All-Star break. As noted here by Ryan Bloomfield earlier this week, however, the team could consider moving some starting pitching by the trade deadline, which would leave some innings up for grabs in the starting rotation.

One intriguing option, as noted by Bloomfield, is Taylor Widener (RHP, ARI). Widener entered the year as the team’s #3 prospect on the heels of a sparkling 2018 at Double-A, where he flashed a 2.75 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 176 strikeouts in 137 innings.
