With Drew Pomeranz (RHP, SD) getting shipped out of town to BOS on July 14, the fire sale is on in SD. While we profiled the outfield in this column last week, the next player to go might be behind home plate. Derek Norris (C, SD) is currently slashing .212/.274/.404 but was on fire in June, putting up his best offensive numbers of the season (5 HR, 77% ct%, 3 SB in 77 AB). After a sluggish start, Norris is currently 3rd in HR, 4th in runs, and 3rd in SB among qualified catchers and his xBA of .247 suggests that there is improvement on the horizon. At a mere $2.95MM and two more years of arbitration, Norris could represent a low-cost upgrade for a number of contenders.
