After an NL-leading 43 saves in 2018, last year’s big free-agent signing, Wade Davis (RHP, COL), has fallen short in his second attempt to hold down the closer role in Colorado, allowing 3 ER en route to a blown save on August 18 followed by 3 more runs against the Diamondbacks (in the 8th inning) on August 19. With Scott Oberg (RHP, COL) sidelined for the rest of the year with a blood-clot issue, manager Bud Black has said Davis will work in lower-leverage spots while the team gives a look at Jairo Díaz (RHP, COL) and Carlos Estévez (RHP, COL) at the back of the bullpen.
