What an interesting year it’s been for the Rockies, who find themselves in the thick of the NL West race despite an offseason plan—i.e., one that entailed spending heavily on relief pitching—playing out much differently than expected. In fact, rather than improving on last year’s 4.40 bullpen ERA (ranked 20th in MLB), this year’s bullpen owns a 5.13 ERA, better than only two teams (MIA and KC) in the majors.

Closer Wade Davis (RHP, COL), who signed a three-year deal this offseason, has disappointed to the tune of a 5.29 ERA (4.18 xERA) despite successfully closing out 32 of 38 games.
