Not only are they 17 games out of the wildcard race as of June 28, but despite being pegged as a team with a solid pitching foundation, the combined staff ERA (4.90) ranks 26th in the MLB—with a 5.02 staff ERA since Madison Bumgarner (LHP, SF) hit the DL (shoulder) on April 21.

Matt Moore (LHP, SF) has been brutal, with a 6.04 ERA (5.11 xERA) in 89 innings pitched, ranking him last in the NL among qualified starters. Matt Cain (RHP, SF) hasn’t won a start since May 15, giving up 32 ER (6.91 ERA) in the 41.7 innings over that timeframe.
