PT TOMORROW: NL West—Shades of Gray

As of Wednesday, COL sits atop the NL West rankings, largely due to a resurgence (or luck) in their rotation. Currently sporting a team 3.30 ERA and top-5 WAR ranking, one wonders if these guys are for real? The biggest notable outlier is team "ace" Jon Gray (RHP, COL). He's given up 11 ER in his past two starts, his velocity is down 2 mph from last season, and his Dom rate has more than halved. He's not walking nearly as many guys so far (1.8 Ctl), but his career-low 8.9 SwK is concerning. Logic might suggest an IL stint in the future.

Jeff Hoffman (RHP, COL) has started the year strong, posting career high Dom, Vel, and SwK rates out of the pen. The converted starter is being aided by an unsustainable H% and S% rates,...
