While the Padres may be rebuilding, they’re doing so while allowing some of their younger guys to play, so long as they continue to produce—with Christian Villaneuva (3B, SD) and Franchy Cordero (OF, SD) being two of the more notable examples.  

That approach may again come to pass in the outfield, where 26-year-old Travis Jankowksi (OF, SD) is starting to again turn some heads. Jankowski, a first-round pick in 2012, had a nice breakout in 2016 in which he stole 30 bases while hitting .245 (.244 xBA) at the MLB level. He was expected to log substantial playing time heading into 2017, but a fractured foot sidelined him early in the season and he never really got going, with a total of 6 hits in just 19 at-bats on the...
