THE BIG HURT: Health grades and risk

BaseballHQ Health scores are a very good proxy for a player’s health risk, but they don’t always tell the whole story. Their simplicity—assigned based on the number of IL days over the past few seasons—makes them easy to understand, and they’re surprisingly good at predicting future injuries. However, there are nuances to injuries, and situations where the number of days on the IL may not reflect key data.

So this is our annual review of players whose Health score may not capture all of the important information about that player’s risks. We will look at players whose injury risk may be over- or understated, and discuss what their true risk level might be.
