This is a very unusual injury for a baseball player—this sort of rupture is most often seen in weightlifters. Since 2012, no professional baseball player has suffered a rupture like this (according to our data), so there’s not really any comps to go by. Assuming surgery, he’s likely looking at 16 weeks or of rehab and recovery, with 3-4 weeks of minor-league rehab to get back up to game speed. In very limited samples, about 80% of patients recovered the majority (~95%) of their prior use. If he were a pitcher, we’d be concerned about long-term effects. As a hitter, the biggest issue for a damaged pectoral would be flexibility. We are optimistic that...
