DR HQ: 2014 injury wrapup—Record number of Tommy John injuries

With the regular season almost complete, the number of players landing on the disabled list is down to a trickle when teams need 40-man roster spots.

It’s time for unofficial 2014 season wrap-up. I’ll continue to review and investigate this year’s injuries as more information is invariably released in the fall.

Remember back to the first six or so weeks of the season when Tommy John surgery was the talk of baseball. Networks ran round tables with medical and baseball experts, the airwaves and message boards were full of theories and talk regarding elbow injuries. Solutions such as lowering the mound and pitchers wearing support sleeves were suggested as a cure. Today, we won’t debate the causes but rather look at selected injury stats...
