Injury: Torn labrum, left hip; pending surgery
DL date: July 20
Estimated DL time: He went from having a left hip flexor strain to a torn labrum in his left hip—and the debate continues. Can he ever stay healthy? The past three years the answer is a resounding no. Unless his surgery reveals some real serious damage, he should be able to return to his prior level. Though at some point, the discussion will be whether he will experiene a decline in his range at short (necessitating a move to 3B).
Estimated 2014 effect upon return: Out for the year.

Manny Machado (3B, BAL)
Injury: Grade 1 sprained ligament (medial?), right knee.
DL date: August 12
Estimated DL time: It appears that Machado and the Orioles...
