The past few injuries for Alex Rodriguez (3B, NYY) have been more of the wear-and-tear type, to the point that many in baseball wondered how quickly his skills would deteriorate as his body failed him. While his latest injury is a collision type (a non-displaced fractured of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand), it is likely to add to the decline in his production. The fifth metacarpal is the bone at the base of the pinky finger on the outside of the hand.

What does this mean for A-Rod owners?
First, the good news: The fracture is non-displaced, meaning the bones at the fracture site are in alignment. This should eliminate the need for surgery to insert a pin into the bone. It doesn’t eliminate...
