DR HQ: Starters Struggling Early

Michael Pineda (RHP, NYY)
Problem: Pineda’s problems started just after the All-Star break last season. He started to lose some movement and command of his pitches along with a drop in velocity. After resting over the winter and being acquired by the Yanks, he showed up to spring training with similar issues as late last summer. Velocity down a bit and command issues.
Evidence of Injury: Scouting reports of inconsistent control and command and lost velocity could suggest shoulder weakness. Rest and rehab work this winter should have cleared up the problem. Clearly, it didn’t and now the Yanks have him on the disabled list.
