GM's OFFICE: Staying clear of the herd

This week, I fell down a rabbit hole. The good news is that I think I found something interesting at the bottom. Allow me to explain.

Two weeks ago in this space, I recapped our first eight picks in the FSTA Draft (which is slowly moving toward a conclusion). We painted that draft in the context of testing out some new approaches to team construction given the recent changes in the MLB ecosystem (also the focus of our First Pitch Forums tour, which kicks off in three short weeks). One of the key strategies explored in that earlier article was the notion of grabbing two ace pitchers early: we took Jacob deGrom and Carlos Carrasco in rounds 3-4.
