SPECULATOR: 2019 reflections

As we put a bow on the Speculator for 2019, it's time to reflect on how things shook out. Our disclaimer at the bottom of the column each week prefaces our speculative calls as "20% plays", but is our actual hit rate higher or (gulp) lower than that? 

With just over a week left in the season, we have answers to a number of questions posed here back in February and March. We ran some preseason columns speculating on 2019’s long shot stat leaders, first-round players, the next Blake Snell, and second-half All-Stars. Today, we’ll revisit those "out on a limb" calls—not only to see what went right or wrong—but to see how things actually played out, dropping in some 2020 takeaways along the way.
