SPECULATOR: Last31 day surgers and faders—pitchers

Last week, Ray Murphy returned to his Speculator roots and led us off with batter surgers and faders over the last 31 days. I'll echo his sentiment that the in-season projection files on our Stats and Projections page are an invaluable tool that I use almost daily. The last-31 day (L31) splits are particularly useful this time of year. With so many eyes and so much weight on April numbers, it's easy for early-season narratives and perceptions to linger longer than they should.

Sure, the L31 samples are just as noisy as their April counterparts, but hopefully this exercise helps tip you off to those "oh, he's been that good (or bad) lately?" type performances. This week, we'll turn to the mound and check out those who've reversed course...

Almost!
