SPECULATOR: September experiments to watch 2012

Around MLB, September is a season for experimentation. For non-contenders, the final month represents a chance to preview certain aspects of an organization's 2013 blueprint. For contenders, desperation often reigns: if something is working, or attrition has removed all of the contingencies and safety nets designed last winter, there's nothing left to do but make the best possible use of the assets on hand.

In either scenario, it's worthwhile to keep tabs on how these experiments play out. For fantasy players, gaining a playing time edge down the stretch is one way to gain in the standings over the season's final weeks. And for rebuilding fantasy players, keeping an eye trained on these situations may provide an early tip to be cashed...
