The Rays recalled the 29-year-old from Triple-A after placing Desmond Jennings on the disabled list. It has been reported that Butler should see the bulk of playing time against right-handed pitchers. He has appeared in the majors the last two seasons—in 2013 with Texas and 2014 with the Cardinals. The Cardinals eventually released him in order for him to sign with a team in Japan in May 2014. Butler offers some power and a moderate BA thanks to his average bat speed and gap-to-gap approach.
