Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2008, Contreras progressed slowly through the Reds system with positive scouting reports but little in the way of production. In 2012, the training wheels came off and 5’11”, 205 pounder rewarded Cincinnati’s patience with a breakout season, with a 63/24 K/BB, 3.20 ERA, and 20 Sv over 60.2 IP between the Midwest and California Leagues.
