Devers, E. Pérez, Harris II, R. Rodríguez, Vientos

Devers moves coasts ... A June trade moved Rafael Devers (3B/1B, SF) from Boston to San Francisco. How is the slugger faring?

While he has lost some skills (148 BPX), he is finding more barrels:

  • Devers has increased his barrels while his xPX is steady, and his 18% HR/F is consistent with his career HR/F. When he lifts the ball, he's hitting the ball well with a 96.4 mph exit velocity on fly balls. He has an ACd QBaB.
  • Even though his contact has dipped, he's hitting the ball with authority (56.7% HardHit%-99th percentile). He's faring better against breaking balls (.306 BA/.270 xBA) compared to his .208 BA versus offspeed pitches.
  • He has lost speed (64 Spd), and he's stolen one base in two attempts.

A move to San Francisco has not dampened his $19 R$. Devers' barrels and power metrics say he can match his 2024 HR total. Even with his hard-hit balls, the lack of contact expects a slight BA dip going forward. Without the speed, he's a strong three-category play in all formats.

Pérez returns ... Tommy John surgery caused Eury Pérez (RHP, MIA) to miss the 2024 season. Since his return, the right hander has an $8 R$ through 12 starts. How are his skills faring?

YearIPERA/xERABB%K%K-BB%Ball%SwKVelG/L/FH%/S%HR/F
2023913.15/4.27 8%28%20%36%15.8%97.624/19/5330%/80%12%
2025603.58/4.11 8%25%16%35%13%97.830/17/5225%/67% 8%

Pérez has similar skills with fewer swings-and-misses:

  • The right-hander has fewer whiffs. While his four-seam fastball's maintaining its velocity, his curveball isn't fooling many hitters with its 5.8% SwK. He's missing more bats with a 14.6% SwK over his last eight starts, which is near his career SwK.
  • He's still a fly ball pitcher, as his four-seam fastball and slider have fly ball tilts. While his S% has fallen, he has found fortune with his H% and HR/F.
  • With his Ball%, his BB% is league average, which mirrors his career BB%.
  • While he had a 6.19 ERA and 19% K% in his first four starts, he has a 2.64 ERA (3.65 xERA) and 27% K% in his last eight starts.

After a rough reentry in his first four outings, Pérez is rounding into form in his last eight starts with three PQS-DOM outings. Even with the fly balls he allows, he can sustain a mid-3.00s ERA with a WHIP near his 1.07 career WHIP. Monitor his form to end the season, as he has improved (120 BPV) in the second half.

Harris II started slowly ... Some fantasy managers were hoping for a rebound season from Michael Harris II (OF, ATL) in 2025. With an $18 R$, a .212 BA and 85 HctX held down his first-half skills. He's warmed up in the second half with a .333 BA and 127 HctX. What's going on with his profile?

His SB% has improved while he has given back some hard contact:

  • He has been more successful (73% SB%) in his stolen base attempts. Even with a speed dip, he has the speed for an upper-teens SB total.
  • The lack of walks and his h% (32% career h%) have contributed to a .273 OBP and .681 OPS. Even with some bad luck, losing hard contact in the first half has not helped his skills. He is making more contact (82%) and hard contact in the second half.
  • He does not make as much contact (75%) vs. LHP, and he has an 89 PX and DDf QBaB versus southpaws.
  • His power remains below average, and his 7.8% Brl% is below league average. Although he posted a 63 first-half xPX, he has a 104 second-half xPX.

Despite his weaker performance vs. LHP, improving his SB% is a good sign. With his lack of plate patience, his OBP could remain below league average. During the last 30 days, his 1.099 OPS ranks second in the National League. His career skills expect him to continue his improved second-half skills, which could provide a $20+ R$ going forward.

Rodríguez picks up saves ... Since the trade deadline, Randy Rodríguez (RHP, SF) has saved two games for the Giants. Does the right-hander have the skills to close out games?

YearIPERA/xERABB%K%K-BB%Ball%SwKVelG/L/FH%/S%HR/F
2024524.30/4.05 8%23%15%35%15%97.540/16/4132%/65% 6%
2025481.66/2.81 5%34%28%33%14.9%97.637/20/4229%/85% 6%

Yes, he's taken his skills to another level (233 BPX) in 2025:

  • Carrying over his SwK has contributed to a K% in the 97th percentile. His slider has hitters chasing the pitch out of the zone (44% O-Swing%) with swings-and-misses (18.8% SwK).
  • Even with his FB%, his HR/F is in line with his career HR/F. The barrels he has allowed puts him around league average, while his 38% HardHit% (71st percentile) allowed is near his 2024 hard contact allowed.
  • Improving his Ball% has helped his BB% in the 85th percentile. He has a 1.07 career WHIP.

Rodríguez has pitched well in 2024. His SwK supports his K%, and even with some S% fortune, his xERA has been strong. Sharpening his Ball% and BB% are good signs for limiting baserunners. He has the skills to close out games in San Francisco.

Vientos struggles ... After hitting 27 home runs in 2024, Mark Vientos (3B, NYM) only has seven home runs in 2025. Is the slower pace a fact?

YearPAHRSBBA/xBAbb%ct%G/L/Fh%HctXPX/xPXSpdSBO%

Yes, while he has added contact his power is more muted:

  • As seen in his below-average xPX, his power has not been the same. Vientos is finding fewer barrels (8.1%), and he has lost some sting (93.4 mph) on fly balls. His 8% HR/F is below his 18% career HR/F.
  • He has added contact, especially when facing lefties (81% ct% vL). He's hitting a few more line drives, and his 48.4% HardHit is similar to 2024. He has a .240 career xBA and 69% career ct%.
  • After hitting .326 against fastballs in 2024, he's not hitting fastballs (.237 BA, .250 xBA) as well in 2025.
  • His sprint speed is in the 18th percentile. Without any attempts, his speed is limited.

Vientos' lower home run total is partly fact, as while his HR/F is running low, he has lost power skills. Even with more contact, his hard hit balls and fortune expect a future BA near his xBA. While he doesn't have much speed, he could improve his $2 R$ to a higher single-digit R$.
