Is Musgrove poised for a breakout? … We opined back in January 2020 that Joe Musgrove (RHP, SD) appeared to be “a pitch mix tweak—throw more sliders, change-ups, and curves at the expense of sinkers and four-seamers—and a touch of S% regression” away from unlocking another level. Upon returning from a three-week IL stint (triceps inflammation), he rebounded from a sluggish start to 2020 with a superb September (2.16 ERA, 2.22 xERA, 39% K%, and 231 BPV in 25 IP). What was behind the surge and could it portend a 2021 breakout?
