Surface stats like ERA can be misleading, especially at this time of the year, as they can mask strong underlying skills that are likely to result in ERA improvement in the future.

Here is a closer look at several underperforming guys in each league worthy of targeting.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Peyton Battenfield (RHP, CLE) isn't striking out many batters (19% K%), so his 4.68 ERA wouldn't seem to have much chance of a rebound. Still, Battenfield is missing plenty of bats on other pitches (12.6% SwK%) and is keeping the ball over the plate at a decent rate (34% Ball%). He still carries some end-rotation appeal in deeper leagues.
