Starting rotations are full of question marks heading into spring training.
Instead of speculating on which starting pitchers will get healthy in camp or which ones will win a starting job in March, a more effective approach is to focus on skills. We can look at those both within and outside of a team's starting rotation in order to forecast how the rotation might evolve during the spring and season.
Many owners make the mistake of focusing on who ends spring training with a starting job instead of looking at the bigger picture of a team's possible starting pitchers. Those who invested in Marco Estrada (RHP, MIL) or Kris Medlen (RHP, ATL) reaped the benefits of the big picture in 2012.
