It’s a bit early for my annual lessons learned from injuries and recoveries for the 2012 season as the disabling of Johan Santana triggered this column. The purpose of this column is two-fold. One it’s a review for me as an exercise in reviewing the way I evaluate player injuries. I try not to get stuck in a rut saying so-and-so will be out 36 days because that’s what my injury database says. Focus on the player, and then situation and medical information then use the database as a guide. Two, my hope it helps you garner more knowledge with selected injury situations.

Nothing frustrates fantasy owners more than having a big power hitter struggling to get through a rehab assignment when you need them in your lineup. Right now, Jose Bautista and David Ortiz are in that situation. Inside, we have the latest on these two players and a bunch of others.

As fantasy owners look to improve their rosters for the stretch run, the last thing they need are injuries. Led by Pablo Sandoval (yes he is on the DL again), some solid pitchers fill out this week's report.

For the second time in two seasons Alex Rodriquez will lose a considerable amount of time to an injury. Also, Ben Sheets is back from the scarp heap. What is the over/under on when he will go back on the DL?

Last week was a quite week for injuries, and is the case almost every year, major league teams play catchup with a bunch of retro moves. While there are not a lot of key injuries outside of Santana and a few others there will be a lot of roster moves this week.

What is the case with Jose Bautista's left wrist? Are the Jays holding out on us? Here is why they might be holding back the whole story.

Now that the break is over, fantasy owners will be looking for key players to return from he disabled list. Today's column covers Tulowitzki. Crawford, Garcia, Gardner and others as we project when they will return and how well they will play in some cases.

The big bat in the Marlins lineup, Giancarlo Stanton (OF, MIA) will be on the sidelines for up to six weeks due to a knee injury and the followup surgery. Read on to see if you should trade him way or he is a safe investment after he returns.
