With the 2012 minor league season winding down, we stop to take a look back at our Pre-Season Top 100 Prospect list. Over the next two weeks will highlight prospect from the Top 100 who either exceeded expectations or fell far short. In the process of doing so, we will examine what fueled these breakouts or caused a player to struggle. This week we start with players who exceeded expectations and next week we look at those who struggled.

As we enter the homestretch of the 2012 season, teams will be able to expand their rosters to 40 players beginning next week. Some September call-ups will have little fantasy or real world impact, but there are some top notch prospects that could help clubs as they make a push towards the playoffs or start to rebuild for 2013 and beyond. Savvy fantasy owners will need to keep an eye on these call-ups, many of whom offer both risk and reward. This week we look at possible impact call-ups in the NL.

It is unlikely many of the top prospects in the game will be changing organizations, but certainly some will as teams like the Rangers, Yankees, Pirates, Reds, Braves and others make a push to upgrade for the stretch run. We are now well past the half-way point for 2012 and can get a better read on players who are having true breakouts and those who are really struggling. With the July 31st trade deadline looming, some of the games top prospects will surely be changing zip codes as we head into August.

We are now well past the half-way point for the 2012 minor league season and can get a better read on players who are having true breakouts and those who are really struggling.

This week, Jeremy Deloney and Rob Gordon unveil their updated, mid-season Top 50 prospect list. Excluded from the list are any prospects either currently in the majors or who have spent significant time in the majors this year. One interesting note is that three of the top four picks from the 2011 draft (Cole, Hultzen, and Bundy) have moved into the top 10 and the fourth (Trevor Bauer) is already in the majors.
