NEWS: Detroit announced that OF Matt Vierling has been reinstated from the 15-day IL; SS Trey Sweeney has been optioned to AAA-Toledo in a corresponding move.

BHQ SPIN: Matt Vierling is back with the Tigers after recovering from the right shoulder inflammation that has dogged him for most of the season. The Tigers' offense has been doing well without him, so the versatile Vierling may bounce around between third base and outfield in a utility role until his bat returns to form. He's only played in four major league games this season due to his shoulder issue, which has sent him to the injured list twice already.
