Gausman exits Toronto, heads to Chicago

NEWS: Chicago acquired RHP Kevin Gausman from Toronto.
IMPACT: High
BHQ SPIN: Chicago, whose search for a starting pitcher has been well-documented in the leadup to the trade deadline, made a significant splash on Sunday evening, acquiring Gausman from Toronto in exchange for two prospects, OF Brett Bateman and IF Ty Southisene. Gausman figures to slot in near the top of Chicago’s rotation and gives the team some much-needed stability considering the slew of rotation injuries the team has dealt with this year. Javier Assad, who recently returned to the rotation after Jameson Taillon was designated for assignment, seems likely to move back to the bullpen given the addition of Gausman.
