NEWS: The Yankees have promoted 21-year-old SS George Lombard Jr. and optioned SS Anthony Volpe to AAA-Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

BHQ SPIN: Lombard is being called up to serve as the Yankees’ primary shortstop, with José Caballero shifting to a utility role in which he will likely see most of his action against left-handed pitchers. In his August 4 debut, Lombard’s solo home run in the fifth inning extended New York’s lead in a 2-0 victory.
