NEWS: Red Sox RHP Lucas Giolito may miss the entire 2024 season due to an elbow injury.

BHQ SPIN: According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, initial imaging on Giolito’s elbow revealed a partially torn UCL and a flexor strain. Surgery to repair the damage is not a certainty just yet, but it is very much on the table. Unless Boston wades back into the free agent market for a pitcher like LHP Blake Snell or LHP Jordan Montgomery, Giolito’s absence would seem to create room in the rotation for both RHP Tanner Houck and RHP Garrett Whitlock, though RHP Josh Winckowski and RHP Cooper Criswell remain part of the competition to slot in behind RHPs Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford.
