NEWS: The Phillies placed Jesús Luzardo (left shoulder inflammation) on the 15-day IL and recalled Kyle Backhus from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

BHQ SPIN: Luzardo is out for the rest of the regular season. Philadelphia hopes he will be available sometime in the post season, but for now the timeline for his return is uncertain. There is no clear cut candidate to replace Luzardo, but given the season is drawing to a close, it’s possible the Phillies will use bullpen games when they have a need for a fifth starter. Backhus has been shuttling between the majors and Triple-A during the course of the season. He’s not expected to see many high leverage opportunities. –Hertz
