NEWS: The Padres signed free agent RHP Griffin Canning and free agent RHP Germán Márquez to one-year contracts.

BHQ SPIN: Canning missed the last three months of the 2025 season with the Mets after rupturing his left achilles in late June. Prior to the injury he was working on one of the best seasons of his career, with a 3.77 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 10.6% K-BB% over 76.1 IP. Canning (8% IP) may not be quite ready to start the season, but once he is he should slot into a spot in the Padres rotation. The soon-to-be 31-year-old Márquez underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2023 and endured the worst season of his career in 2025, his first full season following the surgery. Over 126.1 IP he...
