PLAYING TIME: A.J. Griffin finishes up strong

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Griffin finishes strong

In his final regular-season start, A.J. Griffin (RHP, OAK) held the Mariners to one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings of Friday's 8-2 win.  For Griffin, it was a righting of the ship of sorts after consecutive PQS-0s had besmirched what otherwise has been a stellar debut season.

Despite the late-season stumbles, much of what BaseballHQ.com analyst Dan Becker wrote about Griffin in a September 10 First Impressions piece remains true. Even with an organization flush with young pitching talent like the A's, Griffin is poised to secure a a 2013 rotation spot, and the skills indicate he could take the job and run (93 BPV, 3.75 xERA), even if his luck (26% H%, 81% S%) regresses.
