PLAYING TIME: CLE signs Damon

Damon headed to Cleveland

CLE has signed free agent Johnny Damon (DH/OF, CLE) in an effort to boost its struggling offense. CLE's .176 BA and .617 OPS rank last in the AL through the season's first week. While qualifying initially only at DH in most formats, Damon is likely to become CLE's primary LF and leadoff hitter once he is ready to play. His CLE debut could come within the next week.

While Damon is likely to replace struggling leadoff hitter Michael Brantley (OF, CLE), only 1-for-17 through CLE's first five games, Brantley is likely to continue playing CF until injured Grady Sizemore (OF, CLE) returns. Sizemore is expected to be out until June recovering from pre-season back surgery.
