Without warning on Monday, CHC placed ace Ryan Dempster (RHP, CHC) on the DL with what is being initially described as right lat soreness. On the surface, Dempster's most recent start—a 7 IP scoreless effort vs. BOS last Friday—along with a 22 IP June scoreless streak hadn't hinted of any problems. But Dempster's Dom has dropped monthly from 10.2 to 7.2 to 4.9 in June, indicating that things weren't as they seemed. There's no initial timetable for his return, but there's some reason for caution on the 35-year-old Dempster, even in the event of a trade to a more supportive club.
