NYY acquires Ichiro

With Brett Gardner's rehab taking a wrong turn and his season in jeopardy, the Yankees moved on to Plan B, acquiring free-agent-to-be Ichiro Suzuki (OF, NYY) from SEA for minor league pitching.

As Nick Swisher deals with a nagging hip flexor, Suzuki will begin his Yankee career in RF, but regardless of the eventual configuration, these two figure to be the primary Yankee corner OFs, health permitting.  NYY designated DeWayne Wise for assignment to make room for Suzuki, with part-timers Jayson Nix and Andruw Jones expected to lose some OF AB as well.

As his .261/.291/.353 line (402 AB) with only 15 SB suggests, the 38-year-old Suzuki appears to be past his prime, and is unlikely to hit atop...
