Young to Oakland in three-team trade

OAK added veteran Chris Young (OF, OAK) to an already crowded OF in a recent three-team trade in which it relinquished Cliff Pennington (SS/2B, ARI) and minor-league SS Yordy Cabrera. Coming off a season in which he lost playing time and was frequently platooned, he amassed a career-low 325 AB and corresponding career lows in HR, RBI, SB and runs in 2012. Young's role in Oakland has not yet been clearly defined.

His sizable platoon splits could mean he will platoon again if OAK's OF overflow is not alleviated by another trade. Young sports a healthy career .271/.371/.489 line vs. LHP, but has struggled vs. RHP (.228/.299/.419). Seth Smith (OF/DH, OAK), and/or Coco Crisp (OF,...
