NEWS: Edwin Díaz is likely out for the 2023 season after undergoing patellar tendon surgery.

BHQ SPIN: Updating yesterday’s report on the Mets closer, his injury is likely season ending. The Mets are estimating an eight month recovery period although some have returned in six months. Given the news, we’ve zeroed out Diaz’s 2023 projections. For now, we’ve given the majority of Mets saves to veteran David Robertson, who saved 20 games in 2022, mostly for the Cubs. We’ve also projected Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley to garner some saves. The Mets are reportedly considering Zack Britton, who pitched for Mets manager Buck Showalter in Baltimore.
