NEWS: New York signed Justin Verlander to a two year $86.66 million dollar contract with a $35 million player option for a third year if he pitches 140 innings in 2024.

IMPACT: High

BHQ SPIN:  Just days after losing Jacob deGrom, the Mets replace with the next best (better?) thing: the reigning American League Cy Young award. Verlander is coming off a season with a 1.75 ERA. His xERA was 3.2, but that’s not half bad, and throughout his career, he’s outpitched his xERA. Verlander will step in as the Mets 1A or 1B starter depending on how you rank him with Max Scherzer. The one cautionary note regarding Verlander is his age. While he showed few signs in 2022 of that being an issue, at some point...
