LAA adds Iannetta, subtracts Mathis

With a new GM calling the shots, the Angels improved their catching production with the acquisition of Chris Iannetta (C, LAA) from COL. Iannetta has always shown plus power and double-digit bb%, but has been plagued by poor contact, low BAs and questionable defense. Leaving Coors could hurt him, as suggested by a career .869 OPS at home, .707 away. But even Iannetta's road numbers are better than anything LAA catchers offered in 2011. A scenery change with an AL team could be just what he needs.

The RH-hitting Iannetta's presence could impact the short-term status of switch-hitting Hank Conger (C, LAA), who was a disappointment after a fast 2011 start. His rookie BPIs --9%...
