Perhaps the most impressive performance for the Blue Jays on Opening Day came from reliever Julian Merryweather (RHP, TOR).

Asked to preserve a lead that his team had taken in the top half of the 10th inning, Merryweather shrugged off the runner who started at second base by rule and struck out the Yankees’ 3-4-5 hitters on 11 pitches, 10 of them strikes, to earn the save.

Presumptive closer Jordan Romano (RHP, TOR) had a decent outing in his own right, working around two walks and registering two strikeouts to preserve the tie in the ninth.

Those who rostered Romano likely have little to worry about — at least not yet — and may not even in the long term, as Toronto’s reported preseason plan for Merryweather — whom...
