He looks good, but can he still play?

That’s the question Pablo Sandoval (3B, BOS) will be attempting to answer in Red Sox camp in Fort Myers.

The official line, anyway, is that Sandoval will have to “compete” to win the starting job. The $53 million Sandoval is owed over the next three seasons—plus the fact that he showed up at spring training looking like busted belts will be less of an issue this year—probably give him a distinct leg up in that competition.

In an effort to ensure Sandoval’s health remains on track, he will not play for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. If his health and contact skills intact, Sandoval should be a solid-if-unspectacular producer at third base with a decent BA floor.
