Another year, another power outage for Dustin Pedroia (2B, BOS)? Owners had to be at least somewhat concerned about the possibility after the second baseman required a cortisone shot to treat a sore left wrist.

Entering the season, Pedroia’s PX had been on a three-year slide, and his xPX had dipped two years in a row. Last year’s power outage, though, can be attributed to a torn ligament in his thumb, which required off-season surgery.

Ever the gamer, Pedroia has shrugged off the bumps and bruises from work around the second-base bag as an occupational hazard, though more than most, perhaps, Pedroia has to rely on his hands and wrists to generate power, given his diminutive frame. Last year, Pedroia soldiered through the...
