The lack of consistency and progress displayed by the likes of Matt Wisler (RHP, ATL), Aaron Blair (RHP, ATL) and Williams Pérez (RHP, ATL) in particular, is expected to lead to the addition of at least one, possibly two, veteran starting pitchers this offseason. The goal will be to stabilize the rotation until the young pitchers—whether it be this bunch or the next wave, most of whom spent 2016 at Single-A—prove their readiness. Mike Foltynewicz (RHP, ATL) has made the most progress of the youngsters and appears to be the only lock for the starting rotation outside of Julio Teheran (RHP, ATL).
