PT TOMORROW: NL East—PHI's Joseph off to a dreadful start

Tommy Joseph (1B, PHI) has gotten off to a horrendous start. The 25-year-old converted catcher created quite a bit of excitement following a strong second half of 2016, but he hasn’t been able to carry that momentum into 2017. Through his first 63 AB of 2017, he has an atrocious .190/.235/.270 slash line with 1 HR. The most troubling aspect of his performance has been the lack of hard contact. After posting a 113 HctX and 144 xPX in 315 AB a year ago, he has a puny 82 HctX and 52 xPX so far in 2017.

Joseph has been overly aggressive at the plate thus far, chasing pitches outside the zone far more than he did a year ago and at a rate much higher than the MLB average (O-Swing% 2016/2017/MLB average: 35%/41%/30%). He...
