PT TOMORROW: NL West—Bumgarner trade would leave major void in SF rotation

When he’s not barking at opposing hitters for admiring their home runs, Madison Bumgarner (LHP, SF) has been enjoying something of a bounce-back campaign for the Giants this season. Across 84 innings, Bumgarner has struck out 84 while walking just 17 (4.9 Cmd), throwing with more velocity (91.8 mph) and sitting ~93 mph in last weekend’s start against the Dodgers. As mentioned by Greg Pyron in Facts/Flukes, Bumgarner has been getting better results on his cutter (17% SwK) and relying more on his fastball (42% usage) this year, and could continue to be a productive starter moving forward, even if that version looks different than the Bumgarner of old.

The bigger question, it seems, is whether Bumgarner’s production...
