One of the long-time features of the recently-released 2017 Minor League Baseball Analyst (MLBA) is easily skipped over and forgotten. Because it’s not as flashy as the HQ100 list, or not as descriptive as the player commentaries, the Major League Equivalencies (MLE) section can be overlooked. While it has a very narrow focus, it is one of the many tools in the MLBA that is worth getting to know.
As a quick recap, MLEs are statistical translations of any high-minors season (they capture only Double-A and Triple-A seasons). Bill James first introduced this model back in 1985; ours uses the base of his version and applies park and league factors. The resulting stat line represents what one specific season...
