RESEARCH: Can we project Reliability?

As most regular readers know, the annual Baseball Forecaster and BaseballHQ.com player stats have included a “Reliability” (Rel) grade for the last few years. Reliability is a measure grading all players “A” through “F” for each of Health, Playing Time/Experience and Consistency. (You’ll find the complete definition in the BHQ education/glossary section).
Reliability has become a key part of many BHQ fantasy strategies and player evaluation tools such as Portfolio3 plan and the Mayberry Method. Because Reliability is now so widely used, it seems appropriate to review the metric and determine if there is room for tweaking the calculation and/or improving how it is used.
